In Gascony, just like 2021, the 2022 vintage will go down in history as the smallest harvest since 1991. It was marked by several weather-related risks that foreshadow climate change. A severe frost in early April caused a 20% loss in production; fortunately, the buds were less developed than in 2021. From May to October, exceptional drought and heat marked the spring and summer, with three heat waves exceeding 40°C and only 120mm of rainfall compared to an average of 400mm in a normal year.
Two techniques are used to vinify this wine: A red wine made using the early saignée method, vinified in the liquid phase to contribute fruity aromas and sweetness to the blend. A red wine vinified according to the "traditional" method: whole-cluster fermentation, color extraction with pump-overs and racking, and maceration after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation continues in the vats.
