François Lurton, The origin of this famous historical figure could not be more closely linked to wine world; Descendant of one of the traditional Bordeaux winemaking families.

Upon arriving in Argentina, he embarked on a search for the perfect terroir to begin with Piedra Negra which I conclude with the election of today mundialmente conocida región de “Chacayes” located in Valle de Uco, Mendoza.

Los orígenes: Viaje a Argentina

We find ourselves in the year 1897, when François Lurton's great-grandfather began his journey in search of wine production, maintaining principles that have transcended generations. leave nothing to chance in the pursuit of excellence y allow nature to express itself authentically a través de procesos meticulosos y naturales.

These principles can still be found in every company bearing the Lurton name. After completing his studies, Lurton began distributing his father's wines, which he achieved within a decade. to quintuple the wine income in the Lurton family.

After working side by side with his father in regions such as Deux Mers and Pessac-Léognan, François and his brother created a consulting firm in 1988, which led them to explore and discover exceptional terroirs for wine in Chile, Uruguay, Australia, Portugal, Spain, France And, of course, Argentina.

Entering the 1990s, together with his father and brother, and joining forces with Nicolás Catena, he began his journey towards creating high-quality wines. Thus began the label “Lurton”.

In 1966, the land known as “Chacayes” where the winery of the same name was founded. Later, this region would be recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI)An interesting fact is that one of the most recognized wines from Chacayes “Gran Lurton” It was initially called “Graucho”

Piedra negra - Chacayes

The first vineyards planted in the Chacayes region belonged to Lurton, in the heart of the Uco Valley, located at the foot of the Andes mountain range. La familia Lurton gracias a su expertis lograron sacar todo el potencial de estas planicies, un autentico “diamond in the rough”.

In 2017, François decided that all winemakers in the area could use the brand name on their labels. That same year, “Chacayes” was recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI) of quality.

To celebrate this historic event in the area, François and his team created the wine “L’Esprit de Chacayes"which in terms of notes, manages to resemble what the terroir itself represents, a rough but very pleasant terroir."
